DMR is short for Digital Mobile Radio, and it’s a protocol for digital communication, primarily used in commercial and ham radio. 1. Time Slot
Think of a time slot like a lane on a highway. In DMR, two signals can share the same frequency without colliding, thanks to a technique called Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA). A time slot splits a single frequency into two alternating lanes (or slots), allowing two conversations to happen at the same time, on the same frequency. So, you can have Time Slot 1 and Time Slot 2, each carrying separate transmissions, almost like two channels within a channel. Neat, right?
2. Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA)
This is the magic behind the time slots. TDMA is a method of dividing a single frequency into timed intervals (slots). Your radio sends or receives data in quick bursts, with the system toggling between Time Slot 1 and Time Slot 2. This is what makes DMR efficient—it doubles the capacity of a frequency compared to traditional analog, which only handles one conversation per frequency.
3. DMR ID
